One of the greatest experiences in my life lies in this bit of advice about to spill from my fingertips.
My advice to any undergrad is this:
1) Study abroad, regardless of your major. Why? Because, our world has become so globalized that having a perspective beyond the shores or boundaries of your home country is extremely valuable to employers. Many companies large and small are looking outside to leverage opportunities to develop business in our current day and age. Being able to differentiate yourself from your competition (other young professionals) is extremely imperative, and a semester or two abroad is a perfect way to achieve a level of differentiation. Not to mention the lifelong friends you make while abroad.
2) Do it before your last year in school (my own regret). Why? Because, the level of stress surrounding the issue of getting your classes while abroad to transfer back will be much less. It was difficult for me to find classes at my host university that were acceptable enough to transfer back in replacement for my upper division classes at my home university. It will be much easier to find classes to replace your generals or even early-major courses if you study abroad sooner.
I chose to study abroad in South Korea at Yonsei University. I chose South Korea for various reasons including finances, food interests, internet reviews, etc, and I was beyond amazed at how my expectations were exceeded each day. It was an amazing experience and I would never trade it for the world.
If you have any questions regarding my experiences abroad, don't hesitate to send me a message or connect with me on LinkedIn, Google+, etc.
Friends, I sincerely thank you for your time today.
